Brass round bar for technical and craft applications

Brass round bars are solid metal semi-finished products with a circular cross-section. They are often used as starting material for turning, milling, drilling and other machining processes and, depending on the brass alloy, can be used for a wide range of technical or decorative components.

Terms such as brass bar, brass round stock or round brass are also used for this type of semi-finished product. For the technical selection, the specific brass grade is particularly important in addition to the diameter and length.

CW614N brass as round stock

diconfa currently offers a CW614N brass round bar. The material is also known by the designations Ms58 and CuZn39Pb3.

The round bar is supplied bright drawn with an h9 diameter tolerance. Thanks to its good machinability, the current version is particularly suitable for components that are to be further processed by turning, drilling, milling, grinding or sawing.

Typical components made from brass round bar

Depending on the design and material, brass round stock can be used to manufacture components such as bushings, bolts, sleeves, axles, spacers, threaded parts, valve bodies or fittings.

In addition, brass is also used in model making, arts and crafts and decorative applications due to its characteristic appearance.

Where are brass round bars used?

Depending on the material and further processing, brass round bars are used in areas such as:

  • Mechanical and plant engineering
  • Toolmaking
  • Metalworking
  • Automotive and vehicle engineering
  • Turned and milled parts
  • Bushings, sleeves and bolts
  • Fittings and connecting elements
  • Sanitary applications
  • Model making and prototypes
  • Arts and crafts and decorative projects

Machining brass round bars

How a brass round bar can be machined depends on the specific material. The currently available CW614N round bar is particularly characterised by its good machinability and can be turned, drilled, milled, ground and sawn, among other processes.

This makes the round stock suitable both for machining on appropriate equipment and for various craft applications.

Choosing the right brass round bar

Consider the material grade

Brass is not a single uniform material grade, but comprises various copper-zinc alloys. These can differ in terms of composition, machinability and technical properties. The specific material grade should therefore be checked for each application.

diconfa currently offers CW614N. Additional brass grades may be added to the range in the future.

Select the diameter

The required diameter depends on the intended component and the subsequent machining process. Especially for turned or milled parts, sufficient material should be allowed for the planned machining step.

Custom length

The required length can be selected to suit the project. This means you receive the brass round stock already cut to size and do not necessarily have to cut down a larger standard bar yourself.

Order brass round bars cut to size

At diconfa, you can select the required diameter and length to suit your application. The current CW614N brass round bar is supplied cut to size and deburred on both ends.

You can find additional round bars made of steel and, in future, other metals in the higher-level Round Bars category. An overview of further metal semi-finished products and profiles is available under Metals cut to size.

Frequently Asked Questions
