Rectangular Solid Metal Profiles for Construction and Metalworking

Metal profiles with flat surfaces and a rectangular or square cross-section are classic semi-finished products for metalworking, mechanical engineering, workshops and construction. Depending on the shape, they can be used, for example, as supports, brackets, reinforcements, connecting elements or as starting material for individually manufactured components.

Flat Steel or Square Steel – Which Profile Shape Is Suitable?

Which profile shape is suitable depends mainly on the construction, the required dimensions and the planned further processing. Flat steel and square steel are both made from solid material, but differ significantly in their cross-sectional shape.

Flat Steel with a Rectangular Cross-Section

Flat steel has a rectangular cross-section in which the width is greater than the material thickness. This creates a flat metal profile that is suitable, for example, for brackets, frames, reinforcements, connecting parts and a wide range of constructions.

The flat steel currently offered by diconfa is made from S235 JR or 1.0038 and is supplied hot-rolled and untreated. The available dimensions and further technical information can be found directly in the flat steel category or on the respective product page.

Square Steel with a Square Cross-Section

With square steel, the width and height of the cross-section are equal. The square shape is suitable, for example, for frames, supports, railings, furniture constructions, components in mechanical engineering and numerous workshop projects.

The square steel currently offered by diconfa is also made from S235 JR. Additional materials or versions may be added to the range in the future.

Choosing the Right Rectangular Profiles

Determine the Profile Shape

For flat constructions, tabs, brackets or reinforcements, flat steel is often a suitable choice. If a uniform square cross-section is required, square steel may be the better solution.

Consider the Material

In addition to the shape, the material determines key properties of the profile. The rectangular profiles in this category are currently offered in S235 JR. As the range expands in the future, additional steel grades or other metals may be added.

Select Width, Height and Thickness

Different dimensions are required depending on the profile type. For flat steel, width and material thickness are particularly important. Square steel, on the other hand, is selected according to its square cross-section. The available dimensions can be found directly in the product configurator.

Configure the Length to Suit Your Project

In addition to the cross-section, the required length can be selected to suit the application. A custom cut reduces additional sawing work on site and avoids unnecessary offcuts from long standard bars.

Rectangular Profiles Made from S235 JR

The current range in this category consists of flat steel and square steel made from S235 JR, which is also partly known by the former designation ST37. The steel offered by diconfa is used for numerous classic construction, metalworking and workshop applications.

The specific properties, standards, surfaces, tolerances and processing options should always be checked for the respective product, as this information does not automatically apply to all future rectangular profiles.

Custom Metal Profiles Instead of Standard Lengths

For constructions and repairs, often only a specific profile length is required. Instead of cutting long standard bars yourself, suitable metal profiles can be ordered directly from diconfa to match the project.

This makes further processing easier and can reduce material waste as well as additional work steps. Depending on the product, both individual cuts and multiple profiles in the required dimensions are possible.
