Frequently Asked Questions

Gasket paper is a technical sealing material supplied in sheets from which custom flat gaskets can be cut. It is generally made from compressed fibre materials and suitable binders and is used for repairs, maintenance work and the production of new gaskets.

No. Despite its name, gasket paper is a technical sealing material. It is significantly more durable than regular paper and is specifically manufactured to seal joints between components.

Gasket paper is used for engines, gearboxes, pumps, housings, valves, pipework and technical equipment, among other applications. Its suitability for a particular application depends on the material, the medium being sealed and the operating conditions.

Fibre gaskets is a general term covering various sealing elements and sheets made from fibre-reinforced composite materials. Gasket paper is a relatively thin and easy-to-process form of this sealing material, commonly available in sheets or rolls.

Yes. Many types of gasket paper can be cut using sharp scissors, a utility knife, a hole punch or suitable die-cutting tools. The outline should be carefully transferred to the material and cut out without causing any tears.

An old gasket that is still sufficiently intact can be placed on the new gasket paper and carefully traced. Alternatively, a technical drawing or the cleaned sealing surface of the component can be used as a template. Bolt holes and internal openings must be positioned with particular precision.

The required thickness depends on the component design, the sealing surfaces and the intended compression. When replacing a gasket, it is advisable to use the original material thickness wherever possible or follow the component manufacturer's technical specifications. A thicker gasket is not necessarily better.

Some types of gasket paper are suitable for use with oils, fuels and greases. However, this does not automatically apply to every material. Resistance to specific media must be checked against the technical specifications of the particular product.

Depending on the material quality, gasket paper may be suitable for use at elevated temperatures. However, the permissible continuous operating temperature and peak temperature vary between products and should be checked in the relevant product description.

Professional gasket manufacturing is recommended for complex shapes, tight tolerances, demanding technical requirements or larger quantities. A technical drawing, precise measurements or a suitable sample can generally be used for this purpose.
