Determine the Suitable Cross-Section
For square steel, the cross-section is specified by the side dimension. A square steel bar measuring 20 × 20 mm, for example, has a width of 20 mm on both sides of the cross-section.
The required dimension depends on the construction, load, existing connections and the intended further processing. Various square dimensions are available for the square steel currently offered.
Match the Length to the Component
The required length can be selected to suit the planned construction. This is practical, for example, for frames, brackets, braces or several identical components and can reduce additional cutting work in your own workshop.
Consider the Material and Surface
In addition to the dimensions, the material and surface condition also play an important role. The current range consists of untreated S235 JR. Additional steel grades or versions may be added to the category in the future.
Processing Square Steel
Square steel is often purchased as a semi-finished product and then further processed to suit the required component. The flat outer surfaces can, for example, make marking, clamping, drilling or connecting to other components easier.
According to the product information, the S235 JR square steel currently offered can be bent, formed, machined and welded. The specific processing should be adapted to the material thickness, component geometry and subsequent loads.
Square Steel or Flat Steel?
Square steel and flat steel are solid steel profiles, but differ significantly in shape. With square steel, the width and height of the cross-section are identical. Flat steel, on the other hand, has a rectangular cross-section in which the width is greater than the material thickness.
Square steel is suitable, for example, for bars, frames, supports and construction components with square geometry. For flatter brackets, tabs, reinforcements or flat connecting parts, flat steel may be the more suitable profile shape.
Square Steel or Square Tube?
Square steel and square tube should also be distinguished from one another. Square steel is a solid profile. A square tube, on the other hand, has a hollow interior and a defined wall thickness.
