Round steel cut to size for construction and further processing

Round steel is one of the classic steel semi-finished products. Thanks to its solid, circular cross-section, it is suitable for numerous structural and technical applications as well as a starting material for components that require individual further processing.

Terms such as round steel, steel round bar, steel bar or round iron are often used similarly in trade and search queries. However, the decisive factors when choosing the right product are not only its shape and dimensions, but above all the specific steel grade and its finish.

Round bars made from different steel grades

Steel round bars can differ significantly depending on the material, manufacturing process and surface finish. The most suitable round steel therefore depends on the intended construction, subsequent processing and the technical requirements of the component.

diconfa currently offers round bars made from S235 JR and S355 J2+C.

S235 JR round steel – versatile structural steel

The S235 JR round steel, also known by the former designation ST37, is offered by diconfa as a hot-rolled, untreated round bar. The material is easy to form, weld and further process.

Typical applications include construction, metalworking, mechanical engineering, vehicle construction, agriculture, as well as repairs and individual workshop projects.

S355 J2+C round steel – precision round bar for technical applications

The S355 J2+C round steel is offered as a precision-manufactured round bar with an h9 diameter tolerance. It is suitable, among other things, for machining by turning, drilling, milling, grinding or sawing.

Typical applications include mechanical and plant engineering, toolmaking, vehicle engineering, as well as the manufacture or repair of components such as bolts, axles or shafts.

S235 JR or S355 J2+C – which round steel should you choose?

The choice of the right round steel depends on the specific application. S235 JR is a versatile structural steel suitable for many classic steel and metal construction tasks. S355 J2+C offers different material and surface characteristics and is supplied by diconfa as a precision round bar for technically demanding further processing.

For components subject to structural loads or safety-relevant stresses, the required material should always be selected based on the technical requirements and the respective product data.

Typical applications for steel round bars

Depending on the material and finish, steel round bars can be used in many areas, for example for:

  • Mechanical and plant engineering
  • Steel and metal construction
  • Vehicle construction and repairs
  • Bolts, axles and shafts
  • Brackets and connecting elements
  • Toolmaking and fixture construction
  • Agricultural machinery and technical repairs
  • Turned, drilled and milled parts
  • Workshop and DIY projects

Selecting the right round steel

Material

The material determines essential technical properties of the round steel. It should therefore first be clarified whether, for example, S235 JR or S355 J2+C is required for the intended application.

Diameter

The diameter depends on the construction, load and desired further processing. At diconfa, different round steel diameters are available depending on the material.

Length

Instead of cutting a long steel bar yourself, you can configure the round steel to the required length. This reduces additional work steps and unnecessary material waste.

Order round steel cut to size from diconfa

Select the appropriate steel grade, the required diameter and the desired length to suit your project. The round bars are cut to the selected dimensions and prepared for further processing.

Other materials such as brass, as well as an overview of the different round materials, will in future be available in the higher-level Round Bars category. You can also find additional metal semi-finished products under Metals cut to size.

Frequently Asked Questions
