Frequently Asked Questions about Fine Ribbed Rubber Mats

The fine rib mat is characterized by its extremely dense, longitudinal groove structure. This fine ribbing provides optimal anti-slip properties in the walking direction and offers a stable, safe surface—even in slightly damp conditions. As the mat is laid as a rubber runner in strips, it effectively protects the underlying floor along corridors and walkways from wear and damage.

This distinction is essential for the intended application:

  • Standard fine rib mats (often made of SBR rubber) are ideal for dry indoor areas, corridors, and general walkways. They provide good abrasion resistance.

  • Oil-resistant fine rib mats (mostly made of nitrile rubber (NBR) or high-quality SBR/CR blends) are specifically designed for use in workshops, on machine beds, or in industrial environments. They resist oils, greases, cutting fluids, and many chemicals, so they do not dissolve or swell in such conditions.

We offer fine rib mats that are inherently weather-resistant due to their rubber composition. However, for permanent, unprotected outdoor use, we recommend specialized rubber blends with high UV protection to prevent premature cracking. Our standard mats are very suitable for covered outdoor areas or temporary protection.

All our fine rib mats are sold as rolls and can be precisely cut to your desired length by us. You define the required dimensions in the configurator. We recommend always allowing a small margin for final installation when ordering rubber runners to ensure a perfect fit and minimize waste.

In most cases, gluing is not necessary. Due to their weight and material density, fine rib mats lie flat and are slip-resistant. We recommend loose laying. Adhesion is only advisable for extremely long strips, installation on smooth slopes, or if the mat will be driven over by heavy machinery.

The ribbed structure primarily serves as an anti-slip feature and for drainage. Although the grooves can trap coarse dirt, the fine rib mat is mainly intended as a rubber runner for walking and floor protection. Heavy-duty dirt mats (like our ring rubber mats) are better suited for initial dirt capture in entrance areas.

As a rubber runner, the fine rib mat significantly improves the working environment. The material dampens impact noise and reduces sound disturbances in echo-prone areas. Additionally, the elasticity of the rubber provides slight cushioning, relieving employees’ joints and helping to reduce fatigue during long periods of standing.
