Construction Protection Mats as a Robust Underlay Beneath the Pool

A frequently chosen solution for the area underneath an above-ground pool is a construction protection mat made from rubber granulate. The robust and elastic material forms a durable intermediate layer between the pool and the substrate. The requirements for the area around the pool differ from those for the pool underlay. When swimming, entering or leaving the pool, or showering, water regularly reaches the floor. A structured or open rubber mat can help improve footing safety and make wet walking areas more functional.

Perforated Mats with Water-Draining Structure

Perforated mats have an open structure that allows water to drain downwards. This makes them particularly suitable for areas regularly exposed to splash water. At diconfa, perforated mats are available that are specifically intended for use around pools, swimming pools and hot tubs.

Ring Rubber Mats for Wet Walking and Standing Areas

When planning, not only the actual diameter or the length and width of the pool should be taken into account. With frame pools, support feet and parts of the structure may extend beyond the pool area. The complete installation footprint of the respective pool model is therefore decisive.

Depending on the selected rubber mat, large pool underlays can be assembled from several sections cut to size. Whether a particular mat is suitable for the respective pool should be checked based on the technical requirements and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Preparing the Pool Substrate Correctly

Even the best pool mat cannot compensate for an unsuitable substrate. The area underneath an above-ground pool must be level, firm and sufficiently load-bearing for the weight of the filled pool. Stones, roots, branches and other disruptive or sharp-edged objects should be removed before installation.

A rubber mat then forms an additional protective and cushioning layer. However, it should not be used to compensate for major differences in height or an inadequately compacted substrate.

With frame pools, support feet and braces must also be positioned securely in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. If solid support plates, foundations or other measures are specified, an elastic rubber mat cannot replace them.
