What are flange gaskets?

Flange gaskets are ring-shaped gaskets that are used between two flanges to ensure reliable sealing of pipe connections. They prevent the leakage of liquids or gases and are indispensable in many industrial applications. Typical areas of application include mechanical engineering, the chemical industry, heating and sanitary systems as well as the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Materials & properties of flange gaskets

Depending on the requirements, different materials are used:

  • EPDM flange gaskets – resistant to water, hot water and many chemicals, ideal for outdoor use thanks to UV and ozone resistance.
  • NBR flange gaskets – oil- and fuel-resistant, perfect for industrial and workshop applications.
  • SBR or solid rubber flange gaskets – the economical standard for many sealing tasks in general pipeline construction.

All gaskets are robust, dimensionally stable and, depending on the standard, suitable for pressure ratings up to PN 40.

Application areas of flange gaskets

  • Sanitary & heating: Sealing of pipelines in buildings
  • Mechanical & plant engineering: Secure connections for media pipelines
  • Chemicals & industry: Resistant to oils, greases or chemicals (depending on the material)
  • Food & pharmaceuticals: EPDM as a hygienic material with high resistance
  • Agriculture & environmental technology: Reliable use with water, air and sludge

Häufig gestellte Fragen Flanschdichtungen

The main purpose of a flange gasket is to create a static, reliable, and permanently tight seal between two flanges. It prevents the leakage of gases or liquids (such as water, steam, or chemicals) and ensures that the media remain within the piping system. Our flange gaskets ensure operational safety according to industrial standards, such as DIN 2690.

EPDM flange gaskets are highly sought after because EPDM rubber offers excellent resistance to hot water, steam, ozone, and weathering. EPDM is very elastic, maintains its sealing function across a wide temperature range, and is ideal for use in water and heating systems as well as outdoor applications.

We manufacture flange gaskets according to common national and international standards. This includes the DIN 2690 flange gasket, which is specifically designed for use in piping systems according to DIN 2631 to DIN 2635. This standard ensures precise fit and easy integration into existing flange connections.

Yes, as a manufacturer, we offer the option to order your flange gasket made to measure. In addition to standard dimensions, you can configure specific outer and inner diameters, bolt circle patterns, and thicknesses for your individual application. This ensures you receive the exact sealing solution for special or non-standard flange connections.

Choosing the right material is crucial and depends on the media, temperature, and pressure in the system. For water, steam, and general outdoor applications, we recommend EPDM flange gaskets. For contact with oils, hydrocarbons, or more aggressive chemicals, specific materials such as NBR (nitrile) or FKM (Viton®) are required. Tip: Always consult the chemical resistance chart for your specific medium.
